A Photographers Guide to Bergen County, NJ
New Jersey has the reputation for being much more developed and urban. This can often present a unique challenge for photographers looking to find more isolated and natural looking shoot locations. This is especially true in the northern counties that sit close to New York City like Bergen County. The Celery Farm: Allendale, New Jersey
The Celery Farm is a small natural preserve nestled between the large suburban homes, and busy roads of Allendale New Jersey. It remains a small peaceful oasis amid the busy New Jersey hustle and bustle and features beautiful lake, bubbling streams, wildlife stations, butterfly garden, and of course gorgeous natural views. It’s a great shoot location mostly because it’s a bit small so you can see all the parts of this cozy location in a short walk around the perimeter of the lake.
The Thielke Arboretum: Glen Rock, New Jersey
The Thielke Arboretum is yet another beautiful natural escape from the busy suburban life. It is a natural wetlands forest that has a rustic, simple look and feel. Additional aesthetic features for this location include a duck pond and fountain in the pond and a beautiful antique gazebo that many photographers use for engagement, wedding and other special event photos.
Van Saun Park: Paramus, New Jersey
Paramus may be the land of the shopping malls, but it’s also home to one of the most beautiful parks in Bergen County. It is the exact opposite of the Celery Farm. This sprawling park has a number of unique features including a Carousel, Zoological center and even a small train that rides around the park’s perimeter.
Laurelwood Arboretum: Wayne, New Jersey
The 30-acre Laurelwood Arboretum is simply gorgeous. It has woodland trails, two ponds, coiffed gardens, streams and a number of other beautiful accent pieces. One that is particularly gorgeous is the small rustic wood bridge that stretches across a water garden filled with water lilies. It has a whimsical and almost fairy-tale like atmosphere that’s sure to produce some exceptional photos. Also on the Laurelwood site they also keep an updated list of which flowers will be in bloom. This is a fantastic little resource for photographers so that they always know which flowers will look best.
Fort Lee Historic Park: Fort Lee, New Jersey
New Jersey is known for its close proximity to New York City so why not embrace it? The Fort Lee Historic Park has a number of close views of the George Washington Bridge, the Hudson River, and the skyline of upper Manhattan. It’s also a legitimate historical location with recreated soldiers’ and officers’ quarters that harken back to the Revolutionary War.
No matter what kind of mood or personalities photographers are looking to capture, Bergen County, NJ is home to a number of absolutely stunning locations that are sure to make any couple’s engagement or wedding photos unique and memorable.
