What to Wear to an Outdoor Wedding In Essex County

Essex County is one of a cluster of counties in the Northern New Jersey Area and is home to a number of simply gorgeous outdoor wedding venues. For those who may receive an invitation to one of these celebrations it’s important to keep in mind that like most of the counties in Northern New Jersey, Essex does experience beauty of all four of the seasons. Since the weather at outdoor wedding can be very changeable planning to dress for the seasons is the best way to decide what to wear. Here are some suggestions for ladies and gents on things to wear for outdoor weddings in Essex while still looking great for those inevitable snaps from the Essex County photographer.

Spring

Ladies: Spring outdoor weddings are more likely to experience rain, or be a little extra chilly as the last little bits of winter slowly fade away. While it can’t hurt to check the Essex County weather report, dressing in layers with a light, fun dress underneath is a usually good idea. Bring a cardigan or fancy shrug to make sure you stay warm when it cools off in the evening. Also, consider embracing colors associated with spring when picking your outfit. Soft pastels even a fun floral print will make you an exceptionally fashionable attendee and look great for the photographer.

Gents: Unlike the ladies it’ll be easier for you to stay warm at a Springtime outdoor wedding because you’ll have a suit jacket, but instead of going with a dark heavy suit fabric or color consider changing it up a bit. Choose a suit that is made of a lighter fabric, and has a lighter color think light gray, perhaps a tan or beige. Introduce some of those Spring colors with your tie, and if you want to be extra fun consider wearing a bow tie instead of a traditional looking one.

Summer

Ladies: Summers in Essex County can be sweltering, and if you’re going to be outside for a wedding you have to walk that difficult balance between comfortably cool and overly casual. Crocheted dresses are a great way to get a little more “ventilation” while keeping it classy. You could also go strapless dresses also. Whatever you decide avoid overly heavy fabrics, you don’t want to overheat and pass out! Also, while white is a very popular color for summer wear, avoid it for summer outdoor weddings. The only person who should be in white is the bride.

Gents: If the wedding is casual enough (and most outdoor weddings are), you may be able to get away with a blazer, a button down, no tie and a pair of khaki slacks. Unbutton that top button to give yourself a little extra breathing room.

Fall

Ladies: There’s a chill in the air! Time to break out the leggings, the chunky knit sweaters and the light jackets. Also, consider dressing in layers in case you get a little warm while dancing. Rich, vibrant, earthy colors are great for fall so you can’t go wrong with deep reds, greens, or even a rich gold-colored dress.

Gents: Fall is a transitional season between Summer and Winter so depending on how casual the wedding is you can still get away with lighter colored suits, or for a more formal event, darker colors like navy, chocolate and black are also okay too.

Winter

Ladies: Why not embrace the snowy chilly atmosphere and dress to match! Shimmering, glitzy, and glittering metallic, sequins are definitely a way to go. There aren’t many outdoor winter weddings in Essex County because of the cold so if any of them are there’s generally an indoor area for guests to get warm. Definitely have a heavier jacket and a sweater underneath so that you can stay warm!

Gents: Heavier suit fabrics and shirt fabrics are definitely a way to go. You may also want to consider bringing a nice dressy wool scarf and some gloves while you’re sitting outside during the ceremony. Color wise you can’t go wrong with black suits in the winter but if you want to give yourself a little color, navy blue, bright Christmas red, evergreen, and silver are great tie and vest colors for winter weddings.
